A statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, located at Effia Nkwanta in the Western Region, has been completely vandalised by an unidentified individual.
The incident has generated widespread discussions in Sekondi-Takoradi, with residents expressing varied opinions about the act.
According to a report filed by Nana Fynn, many residents strongly condemned the act, calling it disrespectful and a desecration of a symbol of national leadership, others interpreted it as a manifestation of growing public dissatisfaction with governance in the country.
“Regardless of our political affiliations, we must respect our leaders and national symbols,” one resident stated. Another resident, however, suggested that the act might symbolize deeper frustrations within the community. “This could be a way for people to express their displeasure about the current state of affairs in the country,” they noted.
Local authorities have initiated an investigation to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive behind the act.
The incident has reignited conversations about how citizens express dissent and the importance of preserving monuments dedicated to national figures.
