The Akwadum Christian Village orphanage in Akwadum in New Juaben North of the Eastern Region donated to the Nsukwao Estates Calvary Congregation of the Presbyterian Church Young Adults Fellowship (YAF) group on Saturday, April 29, 2023.
The Akwadum Christian Village Orphanage Home caters for the basic welfare, social, and educational needs of orphans as they provide full adoption services.
The orphanage home was established by Madam Elizabeth Osei, a retired nurse, with the aim of taking care of orphans and the destitute in Akwadum and its environment.
There is a school established by the authorities of the home to care for the educational needs of the children, with about 42 children currently under their care.
The donation on Saturday was led by the leader of the Nsukwao Estates Calvary YAF group, Mr. Godfred Sowatey, assisted by the Akwadum Kyidomhene Nana Kwaku Owusu, Catechist Hayford Okyere, some group executives, and other members of YAF.
Items donated included 4 bags of used clothing, 3 gallons of 5 litres of cooking oil, 10 packs of soft drinks, 12 packs of toilet Trolls, 3 bags of 25 kg of rice, 18 packs of bottled water, two cartons of chicken, and 25 bags of sachets of water.
Others are liquid soaps, disinfectant, a mob bucket and brush, 5 crates of eggs, towels, bedsheets, tin tomatoes, GTP cloths, onions, baby wipes, canned fish, 1 pack of milk, washing powder, 4 dozen face towels, and other domestic items.
The president of Young Adults’ Fellowship (YAF), a group within Nsukwao Estates Calvary Congregation, Mr. Godfred Sowatey, explained that the gesture forms part of the 2023 YAF Week Celebration project, which aims to help humanity cater for their needs.
Mr. Sowatey, speaking in an interview with Afeema FM, said that every year they set aside a day to embark on a charity project as a means to help the less privileged in society.
Mr. Sowatey stated that the church’s mandate was not only to preach the gospel but to also offer a helping hand to the needy, just like God offered Christ to humanity, while they committed and had the vision to reach out to more people in the area.
The children were advised against unhealthy practices that might not aid them in achieving their goals in the future.
Receiving the items on behalf of the facility, the caretaker at the orphanage home, Madam Janet Amankwaah, thanked YAF of the Nsukwao Calvary Congregation for the gesture and said the items would be used for their intended purpose.
According to her, their aim is to provide a family for orphaned children through their support and care and Christian values, as they ensure that every child that goes through their adoption process is placed in a good, loving, and caring home to help create leaders and better people of the future.
Madam Janet Amankwaah is urging individuals as well as cooperate bodies to support the payment of utility bills and also give financial assistance to inmates who have ambitions of acquiring tertiary education after completion of senior high school and other domestic challenges.
The Kyidomhene of Akwadum, Nana Kwaku Owusu, who commended the group for the donation, advised other religious, corporate, and social institutions to emulate the gesture and donate generously.
