The Ghana Police Service has assured residents of Akwatia that the military will only be called in during the upcoming by-election if the situation demands it.

Speaking at a media briefing, COP Dr. Vance Baba Gariba, Director-General of Operations, said the military will remain on standby and will not be involved unless absolutely necessary.

“The military will only be on standby. If we don’t need them, we will not request their deployment,” he stressed.

COP Gariba urged the public to remain peaceful and turn out in large numbers to exercise their civic duty, assuring them of full police protection throughout the process.

He further emphasized that the Police Service, working with other security agencies, is fully prepared to maintain law and order and ensure a peaceful and transparent election.
