The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akwatia Constituency has elected a new set of constituency executives following a peaceful and well-organised election held at Akyem Wenchi in the Eastern Region.

A total of 911 delegates cast their ballots across six polling centres, with security provided by 42 police officers, including senior officers. The election was conducted without incident, with six key positions contested while five others were filled unopposed.

The unopposed executives are the First Vice Chairman, Second Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Nasara Coordinator, and Communications Officer.

In his acceptance speech, Chairman-elect Daniel Kofi Nyame thanked delegates for the confidence they had placed in him and described his victory as a success for the entire Akwatia NPP rather than a personal achievement.

He pledged to prioritise reconciliation by bringing together all candidates who contested and lost at the polling station, electoral area, and constituency levels, as well as former Members of Parliament, party executives, and elders.

According to him, internal unity is essential if the party is to reclaim the Akwatia parliamentary seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The people of Akwatia love the NPP, but whenever there is division within the constituency leadership, we lose the seat. Our focus now must be on reconciliation and rebuilding the party,” he said.

Mr. Nyame also urged members to work towards securing victory for the NPP in the 2028 general election. He noted that the party’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, had assured constituencies of opportunities for appointments should the NPP return to power, adding that even those who lost the internal elections could benefit if the party remained united.

Women’s Organiser-elect Mary Appiah also appealed to members of the women’s wing to put aside their differences and work together to strengthen the party.

Speaking on behalf of the unsuccessful candidates, Buhari Tamimu congratulated the newly elected executives and assured them of his support, saying the outcome reflected the will of the delegates and that all members should work together to make the party stronger.

Outgoing Chairman Nana Yaw Addo thanked party members for the opportunity to serve during his tenure and expressed confidence in the newly elected leadership.

The election was supervised by former Kade Member of Parliament, Mr. Ofosu Asamoah, who later administered the oath of office to the newly elected executives.

The peaceful conduct of the election and the new leadership’s commitment to reconciliation have renewed optimism among party supporters as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general election and seeks to reclaim the Akwatia parliamentary seat.
