The Akyem Mine on 31st January 2023 held its sixth graduation ceremony for twenty beneficiaries under its Leadership Training Programme.
The twenty trainees from other communities were presented with Certificates of Competency following their completion of the one-year training programme.
The Leadership programme was introduced in November 2015 as part of the company’s social interventions to equip young people from host communities with operational and employable skills.
Thirteen [13] of the trainees who graduated are females, representing 65% of the beneficiaries compared to 37% from the previous cohort.
In all, Newmont spent GHS1,440,000 on the trainees. Since the programme took off in 2015, 112 trainees have successfully graduated from the Leadership programme. Out of this number, 44 of them have been directly employed by Akyem Mine and 18 have been employed by contractors on the mine.
