The search operation for victims trapped in the Akyem Wenchi galamsey pit collapse in the Denkyembour district of the Eastern Region has ended without finding any bodies.

Officers from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) worked relentlessly with local residents to search for individuals believed to have been trapped in the pit, which collapsed on Wednesday morning. Despite earlier concerns and efforts to locate potential victims, the search concluded without any bodies being further recovered.

 

The cause of the collapse has been to linked to an open illegal mining activities in the area. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause for the incident. Residents remain concerned about the safety risks associated with galamsey operations in the region.

 

Speaking to some aggrieved youth of Akyem Wenchi they noted that the youth helped in rescuing efforts immediately the incident occurred.

Earlier reports established that four people who were rescued from the pit lost their lives with several others being trapped.
