Flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has officially informed, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II of his intention to contest the flagbearership position of the party.
The former Minister of Trade and Industry was at the Manhyia Palace to also seek the blessing of the Asantehene as he pursues his ambition to lead the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections.
Mr. Kyerematen’s arrival in the region was welcomed by a large crowd of supporters who sang praises for the aspiring flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing the Asantehene, chiefs and elders at the Manhyia Palace, Mr Kyerematen said as a son of the land, he thought it appropriate to come home and meet all stakeholders to sell his vision and get their support to embark on his journey.
He also added that the Ashanti Region is the heartbeat of the NPP and the Manhyia Palace is where it all started, so it was right that he came to where the seed of the party was planted to seek the blessing of the elders.
“I am only going to continue the good works started by my father, Dr. Alex Atta Yaw Kyerematen, who was the first Director of the Kumasi Centre for National Culture”, Mr. Kyeremanten told the Asantehene and elders.
He said while serving in government, he got the approval of President Akufo-Addo to initiate a lot of policies that were changing the lives of Ghanaians.
According to him policies such as the One District, One Factory initiative, which saw as many as 296 factories being established across the nation with the Ashanti Region having 47 of such factories is something he will improve.
He however called for the support of all and sundry, particularly party delegates, to enable him to win the flagbearer position and lead the party in the next general election as the presidential candidate of the NPP.
The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in offering his blessings to Mr. Alan Kyeremanten said he should be a leader to all Ghanaians and not the NPP only when given the opportunity.
