Flagbearer aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, has described Ghanaians as inherently corrupt.

According to him, the Ghanaian culture and upbringing is what has contributed gravely to the corrupt nature of the people.

Speaking in an interview with Citi TV, the Assin North MP, said it will take a conscious effort through education to help Ghanaians understand the fight against corruption.

“Naturally, almost everybody in this country, we are all corrupt because right from inception, when you were born, our culture alone, what the children see at home, becomes an imprint in the brain and they think they are doing the right thing. It is only few that come and realize that what their parents were doing is not right.

“So for us to change Ghana and reduce corruption, we have to educate every Ghanaian. Every Ghanaian should be a partner to the government so that we begin to teach them, advice them, and let them to know that even when you report to work late, it is a corrupt act.”

He also accused parliamentarians for always taking entrenched position whenever issues are being discussed in parliament, stating that such posturing makes it difficult to fight corruption.

“In Parliament, we take entrenched positions. If it is NPP, you see NPP members of parliament supporting and if it is NDC, you see NDC members of parliament supporting. When it happens like that, it makes it difficult to fight corruption.”
