The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Thursday cut sod for the construction of a single-storey child care centre in the city amidst a setting of expectation and hope, filled with excitement.
Located in the heart of the bustling Old Fadama township, the new child care centre which is under the auspices of the Mayors Migration Council and financed by Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors aspires to be a haven of learning, care, and growth for the children between the ages of six months to three years with two classrooms, washrooms, a kitchen, playground, an office space and playground.
The child care centre to be constructed by City Plus Limited is designed to serve as a haven and stimulating environment where children of migrants in the waste sector can engage in educational activities, form lasting friendships, and embark on a journey of exploration and discovery.
The Coordinating Director of the AMA, Mr Douglas N.K. Annoful who plunged the spade into the earth, breaking the ground beneath with a deep breath expressed appreciation to the project’s sponsors stressing that by providing a nurturing and educational environment at an early age, the Assembly was laying the foundation for a more vital and more vibrant community.
This child care centre is more than just a building; it represents an investment in the potential of our future generations, today marks a new chapter in our community’s story…This child care centre will be a beacon of hope, a sanctuary for our little ones to explore, discover, and grow,” Mr Douglas’s voice resonated with pride.
He appealed to community members to embrace the project and eschew any misunderstanding and urged the chiefs in the area to help inform residents about the project.
The Community organiser for the Old Fadama, Abdullai Yakubu Damah, in a remark, expressed gratitude to the AMA and its sponsors for the project as it would go a long way to nurture the potential of children in the area.
“We are thrilled to see this project come to life, we have been here for the past 30 years and no government has come with such a project…I stand on behalf of the people of Old Fadama to join officials from the AMA to break the ground for the commencement of the project and to say that no one from the community can stop the project.”
The Community Organiser, added,” Our community has come together to embrace and make this dream a reality, we believe that this child care centre will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our children.”
The Assemblyman for Amamomo electoral area, Hon. Musah Ziyad who was present at the event welcomed the project stressing that the centre when completed would serve the colour twice good of the community and appealed for some form of compensation to residents who would be directly or indirectly affected by the project.
