The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will lead a clean-up exercise in the Metropolis to mark the Assembly’s 125th-anniversary celebration and in preparation for the final funeral rites of the late Ga Manye, Naa Dedei Omaedru III.
Scheduled to be held within the jurisdiction of the AMA, the clean-up exercise will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2023.
According to the Head of Public Affairs-AMA, Gilbert Ankrah, the clean-up exercise will take place in areas such as Okai South Sub-Metro, Ga Traditional Council (GTC) stretch of Palace Street, Rev. Thomas Clegg Memorial Methodist Church to Department of Social Welfare stretch of the Nii Asere Ayite Road Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metro, Fire Academy and Training School, Bodey (Cleland Road) through to Kwame, Nkrumah Memorial Park (John Evans Atta Mills High Street), Odorkor Station (Asafoatse Nettey Road) to Bukom and Accra General Post office and its environs (Asafoatse Nettey Road).
Other areas are Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital (Derby Avenue), Ablekuma South Sub-Metro, Chorkor (Old Winneba Road) and Korle Bu Traffic Light to Mamprobi Post Office (Guggisberg Avenue).
However, the Assembly noted that all business activities, including markets, shops, transport, and all other economic activities, should be closed or halted during the above-mentioned duration.
The Assembly also urges all residents, corporate entities, traders, and shop owners to organise similar exercises in their communities in compliance with the AMA Sanitation, Cleaning, and Communal Labour Bye-laws 2017, which will be strictly enforced by the Environmental Health Officers (Saman Saman).
“Additionally, in line with the Ga Traditional Council amended directive on the closure of all shops and markets on Saturday 28th October,2023, the Assembly will also conduct a deratting.” The Assembly added
