Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh received in his office this afternoon, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Ghana, Her Excellency Simone Giger. Discussions centred on Ghana’s partnership with the Swiss government in the energy sector.

They among others discussed Swiss operations through their donor agency SECO in the context of the Scaling Up Renewable Energy Project (SREP)

In Dr. Prempeh’s remarks, he expressed government’s keenness in ensuring that the project lives up to expectation, mobilizing financial resources to catalyze investment in renewable energy solutions as well as increasing access to clean and reliable electricity services to support Ghana’s energy transition efforts.

“The Net Metering Solar PV (NMPV) project under the broader project will deliver 12,000 units of roof-mounted net-metered solar PV systems to reduce the public sector electricity debt, impact positively on the Energy Sector Recovery Program (ESRP) and, improve energy security for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and households in the urban areas,” he said

Whilst expressing gratitude to the Swiss government for their support to the energy sector thus far, the Minister reiterated the clear blueprint Ghana’s energy transition framework provides in the context of their project and called for a deepened partnership.

“As sector Minister, I remain committed to ensuring the energy security of our country and will continue to lead strategic collaborative drives in the interest of our country,” he said

On her part, Ambassador Giger expressed the Swiss government’s commitment to the bilateral relations with Ghana, especially in the energy sector.
