An ambulance driver has been killed after being struck by a commercial motorcyclist in Adeiso, in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

The victim, Mr Akpelete—popularly known in the community as Zopazo—was walking home along the roadside on Monday evening when the incident occurred.

Details emerging indicates the motorcyclist, 27-year-old Mawuko, was speeding along the Asamankese road, between the Agbeliga and Nkansah communities, when he lost control and hit the pedestrian.

Mr Akpelete died from his injuries at the scene, a report by Prince Collins Bening for Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM indicated.

The motorcyclist survived the crash with severe injuries and was transported to the Nsawam Government Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The tragedy has renewed local debate over the rapid expansion of the commercial motorcycle industry, commonly known as “okada”, in the Upper West Akim District.

The Adeiso District Police said they have consistently attempted to enforce safety regulations and clamp down on reckless riding, but containment remains a significant challenge.
