Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi pleaded not guilty to charges of wilfully causing financial loss to the state, intentional dissipation of public funds, and conspiracy to commit crime. His plea was entered on Monday, May 26, after missing two previous court appearances due to reported medical emergencies.

The former Board Chairman is accused alongside Solomon Asamoah, former GIIF CEO, of transferring $2 million public funds into a private account without authorisation, allegedly for the proposed Sky Train project. The prosecution claimed this transaction violated legal and administrative protocols, resulting in significant financial loss to the state.

As part of his bail conditions,  Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi must deposit his passport and travel documents with the court and report to investigators weekly. The case has been adjourned to June 10 at 9:00 a.m. Both defendants deny wrongdoing and are expected to mount a full defence.
