Anti-Cocoa Smuggling taskforce intercepts 400-bag Togo-bound Cocoa beans at Nketepa

The National Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Task Force Division of the Ghana COCOBOD in collaboration with the Nketepa Community Watchdog Committee in Kwahu South Municipality, has intercepted two trucks fully loaded with 400 bags of cocoa beans.

The news team was told the smuggled Cocoa Beans had allegedly been bound for Togo. Four suspects were apprehended and taken into Police custody to assist in investigations.

Bosu Yaw, the Assembly Member for Nketepa told press men their community had become an exit point for smugglers exporting goods to Togo. He emphasized the pivotal role of the Watchdog Committee in combating such activities and appealed for logistical support to enhance their operations.

Anthony Ablor, the leader of the Nketepa Watchdog Committee explained that the team had been monitoring the smuggling attempt for a week before successfully apprehending the trucks around 1 a.m on Friday.

While the drivers and their assistants initially fled, the police intervened to ensure the arrests. Ablor also noted the challenges posed by armed robbers and smugglers frequently using the area.

COCOBOD has reiterated its commitment to combating cocoa smuggling through the offering of rewards to individuals who provide credible information leading to arrests.
