Ghana will bid a final farewell to renowned inventor, industrialist, philanthropist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, whose funeral rites are scheduled for July 30 to August 1, 2026.

The late Apostle, popularly known as “Kantanka,” is remembered as one of Ghana’s most influential figures in indigenous technology, industrialisation and Christian ministry, having dedicated decades of his life to promoting African innovation and self-reliance.

According to funeral arrangements announced by the Head of the Kantanka Family, Sarah Adwoa Safo, in collaboration with the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Funeral Planning Committee, the burial service will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region.

A national farewell ceremony and final funeral rites will then be held at Independence Square on Friday, July 31, 2026. The event is expected to draw thousands of mourners, including government officials, traditional leaders, church members, industrialists, supporters and admirers from across Ghana and abroad.

A Thanksgiving Service has also been scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Jackson Park to celebrate the life and achievements of the late industrialist and preacher.

Born with a passion for science, engineering and spirituality, Apostle Dr. Safo rose to prominence through his groundbreaking innovations and his commitment to empowering Africans through technology. In 1971, he founded the Kristo Asafo Mission, which later evolved into a movement known for combining faith, industrialisation and technological advancement.

He subsequently established the Kantanka Group, a Ghanaian conglomerate that became widely recognised for producing locally manufactured vehicles and machinery. Through Kantanka Automobile, he championed the production of made-in-Ghana vehicles specifically designed to suit African roads and conditions.

Over the years, the late Apostle introduced several inventions in electronics, agriculture, engineering and machinery production. His annual technology exhibitions attracted nationwide attention, showcasing homegrown innovations aimed at transforming Ghana’s industrial sector and reducing dependence on foreign technology.

Beyond his achievements in science and manufacturing, Apostle Dr. Safo was admired for his humanitarian works. Through the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group, he supported vulnerable individuals, created employment opportunities for many young people and invested in education, healthcare, skills training and agriculture.

Many Ghanaians viewed him as a symbol of African creativity, determination and self-confidence. His contributions to religion, technology and industrial development earned him recognition both in Ghana and internationally.

As preparations intensify for his final funeral rites, tributes continue to pour in from various sectors of society, with many describing him as a visionary whose works inspired a generation of African innovators and entrepreneurs.

The funeral ceremonies are expected to attract a massive turnout as the nation celebrates the extraordinary life of a man whose legacy in faith, science and technology continues to shape Ghana’s industrial future.
