Arsenal face injury blow after Ghanaian international Thomas Partey was substituted at half-time in their FA Cup tie against Manchester City yesterday.
Partey was replaced by Albert Sambi Lokonga after he had a knock to his rib during the first half.
Mikel Arteta speaking in his post-match press conference said Partey felt something and he took the decision to take him off because they did not want to take any risk.
“He felt something and we didn’t want to take any risks so he could not continue.”
Asked if it was a knock to his ribs, he said “he had some discomfort and it was getting worse and worse. He could not continue, he was not comfortable continuing. Obviously, Tomorrow, or the day after, there will have to be an MRI scan and we’ll see what he has,” he said.
Manchester City went ahead to win the match by 1-0, through a beautifully placed curler in the 64th minute by Nathan Ake.
Arsenal will now wait for the MRI scan to ascertain the level of the injury, as Partey may miss their next premier league game against Everton on Saturday, February 4.
