Road users and artisans at Suame Magazine in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 31, blocked sections of the Suame Road in protest against what they described as prolonged delays in the ongoing construction project.
The demonstrators said the situation has become unbearable, citing excessive dust along the stretch, which they say is affecting their health and disrupting daily business activities.
The protest adds to a series of similar demonstrations on the stretch in recent months, as frustration continues to mount over the slow pace of work.
Protesters blocked the road and burned tyres, temporarily halting vehicular movement.
The action caused traffic disruptions in the area, prompting the deployment of police officers to maintain order and ensure the free flow of traffic.
In an interview with Citi News, some road users expressed their frustration and called for government intervention.
“Excessive dust is taking a toll on us. Former President Akufo-Addo should be blamed; he started this project a few months before leaving office, and it’s now an albatross,” one road user said.
Another added, “It is increasingly difficult to ply the road.”
