The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akim South, Honourable Kwaku Asante-Boateng has assured the chiefs and pupils of Odubi Presby Primary School that he will complete the abandoned three-unit classroom block project.

According to the MP, the project which is funded by the Common Fund would be completed in two months’ time.

He noted that the office has secured funding to complete the project adding that an initial 100 bags of cement had already been sent to the school and by next week the contractor would move to site to commence the second phase of the project.

Speaking to the Republic Press (RP), Mr Asante-Boateng said the project stalled due to misappropriation by the local representative supervising the projects because monies paid to him to be used as labour were not accounted for.

“But the good news is that we have appointed a new person to be in charge of the project and within two months’ time the classrooms would be ready for use,” he stated.

“I was supposed to send the money to the local representative on Wednesday August 25, 2021 but I had an emergency and came to Kumasi so today we will send the money for the project to start and in a two weeks’ time they will reach roofing level.” The MP added

Painting a picture of the school to the RP, Mr Bagyi Innocent, the headteacher of Odubi Presby Primary School located in between Borgu and Komeso road in the Asante Akim South Municipality in the Ashanti Region said the school is in dire need of the classrooms to aid teaching and learning.

Mr Bagyi said currently, the old six-unit classroom block at the school is at the verge of collapsing and the only class two and three are being used and even that when it is raining those two classes have to be closed or force to merged with the kindergarten classes.

He said the previous administration, the National Democratic Congress built a three-unit classroom blocks with store and library but because the condition of the old six-unit classroom is inhabitable, the headteacher has no option than to convert the library into a classroom.

The headteacher said the abandoned new projected when completed would aid teaching and learning.

He said the school recently received 17 dual desks from the Municipal Assembly to augment the existing infrastructure in the school. The school which has a current population of 200 need the completion of the abandoned classroom to support teaching and learning.

“Let me use this medium to appeal to philanthropist and non-governmental organizations to support pupil with exercise books. Many of the pupil come to school without exercise books which is one of the key learning materials with the simple excuse that my parent didn’t buy books for me,” he stated.

Mr Baggyi called on the government to extend the school feeding programme to the school because many of the pupils in the area come to school without food.
