The Manhyia Palace has officially unveiled Nana Ama Bonsu as the 15th Asantehemaa (Queen Mother of Asanteman), succeeding the late Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The historic unveiling ceremony took place on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, marking a new chapter in the traditional leadership of the Asante Kingdom.
Nana Ama Bonsu succeeds Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who served as the 14th Asantehemaa until her passing in 2025.
Her installation officially brings to an end the transition period following the death of her predecessor and ushers in a new era for Asanteman’s revered traditional institution.
As the 15th Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Bonsu assumes one of the most influential positions in the Asante Kingdom. The Queen Mother serves as the custodian of the royal lineage and plays a pivotal role in the governance and preservation of Asante customs and traditions.
Beyond safeguarding the kingdom’s cultural heritage, the Asantehemaa advises traditional authorities, advocates for the welfare of women and children, and contributes to the social development of communities across Asanteman.
The office also holds significant constitutional importance within the traditional system, as the Asantehemaa plays a central role in the nomination and selection of an Asantehene whenever the Golden Stool becomes vacant.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III was installed as Asantehemaa in 2017 by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, following the passing of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, one of the longest-serving and most revered queen mothers in the history of the Asante Kingdom.
The unveiling of Nana Ama Bonsu is widely seen as the continuation of the centuries-old traditions and leadership that have sustained the Asante Kingdom for generations.
