Former Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has responded to comments made by the current Minister, Kwame Agbodza, regarding the construction of roads under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Asenso-Boakye described Agbodza’s claims as “misleading” and “a reflection of deliberate distortion and double standards.”

Asenso-Boakye clarified that over 13,624 kilometers of roads were undertaken between 2017 and the end of 2024, including new constructions, asphalt overlays, graveling, reconstructions, and upgrades. He stated that these figures were compiled by the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate, which comprises professional civil servants.

Asenso-Boakye raised concerns over Agbodza’s comments on single-source procurement, noting a contradiction in his stance.

He urged the Ministry to focus on technical delivery and avoid politicizing its operations, adding that “Ghanaians deserve honest, data-driven leadership.”

The Minority Caucus on the Roads and Transport Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and accuracy in the reporting of public infrastructure projects.

Asenso-Boakye’s rebuttal highlights the ongoing debate over the government’s road construction achievements and the need for accurate information.
