The six accused persons arrested in connection to the killing of the 21-year-old soldier, Private Imoro Sherrif, in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region have been remanded in police custody.

The accused persons who were arrested between March 9-12, at different locations appeared before court on Monday, March 13, 2023.

According to the prosecution, two of the accused persons robbed the soldier and in the process, one of them stabbed him in the arm.

The other four are said to have bought a stolen mobile phone taken from the deceased soldier.

In court on Monday morning, Abdul Fatawu Alhassan, the defence counsel for the four accused persons said to have bought the stolen phone prayed the court to grant the four bail as they were not part of the robbery nor the alleged killing.

The judge, Simon Gaga, after considering the case remanded the four accused persons together with the other two into prison custody and to reappear on March 27, 2023.

The suspects include Safianu Musah alias Dayorgu, Ibrahim Abdul and Samuel Tetteh alias Wiper, Abubakar Sadick alias Birdman, Yussif Mohammed and Gafaru Abdul Karim.

Despite the arrest of the suspects, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Norgbey said the arrest will not stop him from seeking justice for the innocent residents who were brutalized by the military.

According to him, some of the brutalized citizens are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals and need to be catered for.
