The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Isaac Boafo, popularly known as “Duabo King,” for allegedly publishing false information with the intent to cause fear and panic.
In a statement signed by Godwin Ahianyo, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Region, the police said the arrest followed the circulation of a viral TikTok video in which the suspect accused four police officers at the Central Police Station in Kumasi of engaging in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrol duties at Asafo.
According to the statement, intelligence-led operations by officers of the Police Intelligence Directorate in the Ashanti Region led to the arrest of the suspect.
During interrogation, Isaac Boafo admitted to publishing the video and described himself as a social media content creator who made the allegations purely to attract views and online engagement.
He further conceded that he had no evidence to support the claims against the officers.
The suspect also acknowledged making comments about the President of the Republic as part of his content creation activities, admitting that he could not substantiate those statements either.
Police say Isaac Boafo has since been formally charged and is currently in custody to assist with further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service, through the Ashanti Regional Police Command, has cautioned the public against the publication and circulation of false information, especially on social media platforms.
The police warned that such conduct can cause unnecessary fear, panic, and serious reputational harm, stressing that individuals who engage in the spread of false news will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
