Yaya Alhasan, the assembly member for Kofibadukrom in the Dormaa Central municipality of the Bono region has collaborated with the Ghana Immigration Service and the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to crack down on Qnet activities in the area.
The efforts have resulted in the arrest of about 30 individuals suspected to be involved with Qnet. Some individuals from Côte d’Ivoire are being repatriated, while others from Burkina Faso, Nigeria and Benin are undergoing immigration procedures for deportation.
Hon. Yaya explained that his involvement stemmed from the alarming rate of people being lured into Qnet scams every week, often with false promises of education or lucrative opportunities. He expressed concern that some victims deceive their parents, claiming to be in school or using other fabricated stories. The assemblyman’s efforts aim to protect residents from falling prey to these scams and to address the issue at its root.
He also hinted at the possibility that some individuals might be using spiritual manipulation to lure victims into these schemes, underscoring the complexity of the issue. By working together with security agencies, Hon. Yaya hopes to create a safer and more secure environment for residents in Kofibadukrom and beyond.
