The Assin Fosu District Court has ordered that 19-year-old Shadrack Kwame Gyamfi, standing trial for the murder of 57-yaar-old Adwoa Attaa at Assin Dompim in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region, be sent to a psychiatric hospital for a comprehensive mental health assessment.
Presiding judge his Lordship Abdul Majid iliasu explained that the psychiatric report will help determine the accused’s mental state and capacity at the time of the alleged offence which is very critical for the trial.
The sad incident occurred on Monday 3rd November 2025, around 5pm. The prosecution stated that the accused admitted to strangling the deceased after she allegedly refused to give him Ghc 100 to buy food.
Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo, the prosecutor explained that the accused Shadrack Kwame Gyamfi dragged the deceased from the corridor into her room, after pushing her against the wall, which rendered her unconscious, before strangling her to death to conceal the act.
The accused who is the nephew of the deceased was apprehended shortly after the body was discovered, showing signs of strangulation, bruising and other injuries prompting an intensive police investigation.
