The Tourism Society of Ghana (TOSOGHA), in partnership with the Paramount Chief of Owerinkyi Traditional Area in Assin Kushea in the Central Region, Ehunabobrim Nana Prah Agyensiem VI have organized an educational tour themed, ASSIN HERITAGE ADVENTURE for schools within the district.
According to the Marketing and event coordinator of the society, Sandra Akonobea, the decision to partner with the paramount chief, is to involve Ghanaian youth across the country through series of social cultural activities to promote tourism and this birthed the maiden edition of Assin Heritage Adventure in Assin Fosu.
The Ghana Education Service Cultural Coordinator for Assin Central, Mensah Smith, while delivering a message said that, the municipality is in support of such an initiative and at his age, he did not know that Assin has such tourist sites.
“The question asked in recent times are, how many people know there are tourist sites along the Assin stretch? Today is the very first time I toured around the Pra River to come across other tourist sites. I questioned myself that, at my age, I don’t know all of these sites, then how much more the youth. In so doing, the education directors in the region have approved and are willing to put much support to see that the Ghanaian domestic tourism is being promoted in our communities,” he said.
“However, leaders will be appointed in every community to help discover new tourist sites and mobilize the citizens to be educated on the need to explore and learn new things at attraction sites,” he added.
The Executive Director of Tourism Society of Ghana (TOSOGHA), Joseph Amartey, disclosed that the Assin Heritage Adventure, want to support and push the agenda of decentralization, because most people are of the view that Accra is Ghana, due to this, most events are organized there, but that perception, will be a thing of the past, as far as TOSOGHA is concerned.

Speaking at the durbar grounds, he mentioned that the society’s major purpose is to explore the beautiful facilities sites in Kushea such as the crocodile pond, slave tomb, mini zoo, and the mini fishing pond Indeed, the Akan adage that says, Central Region wo ade aa oye, can really be seen here because the town is really blessed with a lot of beautiful sites. We can boast that Kushea is the biggest palace in West Africa.
“Your highness, Nana Prah, some of us are learning from what you have done and I believe from here I have learnt a lot. To the students and everyone present, when you go to your homes you are also going to make your community within where you stay, your school as well as become an ambassador for sanitation as we have seen here today at the neatest and biggest palace in West Africa,” he added.
The Paramount Chief of Owerinkyi Traditional Area, Ehunabobrim Nana Prah, informed the members that, they should not be deceived by any individual that, they can see crocodiles only in Paga in the Upper East Region after their tour in Assin central.

“Let no one deceive you that for you to see crocodiles you must go Paga, come to Kushea, you will see them.”
He lamented that, when he first came to Kushea, he saw fishes swimming in the river, but illegal mining activities have destroyed the nature of the water body.
He further congratulated the Executive Director of the society, Joseph Amartey and his team for such an opportunity.
The durbar was graced with performances by Obiri-Yeboa Senior High school, ASSIN north senior high school and many more.
