The New Patriotic Party (NPP) family in the Assin North constituency in the Central region have warmly welcomed Member of Parliament for the constituency James Gyake Quayson back home after he embarked on a six-month health recovery trip.

After being re-elected in a By-election on June 27, 2023, and subsequently sworn in as the MP, Mr. Quayson travelled out of the country to seek medical care.

In a statement signed by the NPP’s director of communications in the constituency, Prince Agyekum, the NPP irrespective of political differences prayed for good health for everyone but also mentioned that “we wished you were around for us to engage you on some pressing issues about the development of Assin North but we were all put in suspense and shock when your own party people started asking about your where about.

“We are also in the known that your side, the Minority in parliament was in die need of you to join them to add up to their numbers in passing the 2024 budget but all attempts to find your proved futile”, the statement added.

The party also noted that “Youths of Assin Gangan a place you were favoured with lots of votes to facilitate your MP position even went on TV and Radio asking the same questions as your as party people were doing.
We are reliably informed that parents from your own political party were tossed up and down at your office in their attempts to find you to get some chop box and trunk for their wards to enjoy their portion of the Free SHS Policy instituted by the Nana Addo and Dr. Bawumia led NPP government but to no avail’.

However, the NPP supporters in the constituency are also demanding evidence from Mr. Quayson in reference to certain comments he made against Charles Opoku during his campaign ahead of the By-election.

“Hon. James Gyekye Quayson, the New Patriotic Party would like to know from your office if there has been a bill in parliament to be passed concerning LGBTQ+ after you were sworn in as an MP for Assin North. During the By-election campaigns, your message was that a vote for the New Patriotic Party Candidate Hon.Charles Opoku will facilitate the passing of the LGBTQ+bill and for that matter, the people should vote against which worked for you.

Again, Hon. Member, in the heat of the campaigns for the by-election, your message to the constituents was that the NPP candidate Hon. Charles Opoku is engaged in “Galamsey” and would claim all lands for “Galamsey”.

We would like to know if you have come across a mining concession document that bears the name of Hon. Charles Opoku on it”, adding that if all the above comments were just falsehoods that were peddled against Hon. Charles Opoku by Hon.Gyekye Quayson and NDC, then an unqualified apology and retraction is needed.
