The Member of Parliament for the Assuogyaman Constituency, Thomas Ampem Nyarko has commissioned a cornmil project at Anum to support persons with disabilities in that community.
Ampem Nyarko, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Finance, said he was deeply moved by the plight of persons with disabilities in the area and decided to invest in a sustainable, income-generating project to improve their livelihoods. He explained that the project was personally funded to give hope to members of the association.
“ This project is for all disabled persons here. In addition to this, there will also be individual support for the over 45 members of the Anum Disabled Association in the future,” he stated.
The MP called on the general public to patronise the Cornmill facility to ensure its sustainability and enable it to serve its intended purpose. He further urged members of the association to constitute a project management team to manage the venture prudently, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in the use of proceeds.
The Deputy Finance Minister also used the occasion to commission a community information centre he funded with support from his friend and disclosed further that other development projects are planned for the constituency this year. These include the construction of a new boys’ dormitory at Anum Presbyterian Senior High School, an administration block, and an additional block for the Anum Vocational Institute, adding other communities will not be left out in the plan. He further announced that the Osebeng–Boso Road project is being considered under the Big Push initiative for speedy execution.
Hon. Ampem Nyarko expressed his gratitude to the chiefs and people of Anum for their support from the inception of the projects to their completion.
The President of the Anum Disabled Association, Mr. George Odei thanked the Honourable Minister for what he described as a pleasant surprise and assured that the association would take all necessary steps to ensure the cornmil project serves its intended purpose. He also called on other persons with disabilities in the community to register with the association in order to benefit from collective support.
The Adontenghene of the Anum Traditional Area, Nyenye Kwasi Nyane, commended Hon. Ampem Nyarko for his foresight and appealed for more projects to be extended to Anum to accelerate economic growth. He also praised the government’s economic policies, noting the general reduction in prices of goods and services during the festive season and beyond.
Meanwhile, the Cornmill project has been strategically sited near the town’s main market, close to the Anum Rural Bank, while the information centre is located within the Theodosia Oko Enclave, to bring services closer to the people.
