A tragic incident at Asuoso Senior High School in Offinso, Ashanti Region, has left teacher Ishmael Famous severely injured and questioning his career in education.
Famous was brutally attacked by a student, who stabbed him in the left eye during an altercation.
Recounting the ordeal in an interview with Adom TV, Mr. Famous clarified that the student had not been in the class but was outside when he and his colleagues encouraged students to join the lesson.
“I didn’t see the fight. I was so confused all I heard was people shouting that he was going to kill me with the knife,” he recalled. “He slashed my neck and head twice before finally stabbing me in the eye.”
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has strongly condemned the attack, calling for swift justice.
The association has urged law enforcement authorities to prosecute the student responsible and ensure that such acts of violence against educators do not go unpunished.
Additionally, GNAT has insisted that Mr. Famous is entitled to workman’s compensation, emphasizing that he sustained the injury while carrying out his lawful duties.
Following the attack, Mr. Famous has expressed regret over his decision to become a teacher, highlighting the dangers educators face in their line of work.
The incident has reignited concerns over safety measures for teachers in Senior High Schools across the country.
