In a significant stride towards bridging the digital gender gap, AT, formally AirtelTigo and Telecel Ghana on August 1, 2024 opened their doors to the best 100 young girls from the 2023 GIICT.
They were empowered with the requisite knowledge in the ICT sector through mentorship programs, workshops and open-day activities to prepare them for ICT-related professions in the future.
The Girls-In-ICT Open Day Event forms part of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation’s Girls-In- ICT programme. Beneficiary regions were Savannah, Northern and Eastern regions.
The girls toured the data centres of AirtelTigo (AT) where all the information concerning data were recorded such as call centers, transactions, photos and videos shared, chats and others.
At Telecel Ghana, the day was packed with engaging and informative activities designed to immerse the girls in the world of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Highlights included a mentorship workshop and hands-on sessions covering Cybersecurity, Robotics, Networking, Solutions Development, and Digital Transformation.
The girls were mentored by ICT industry women working within Tech firms. The sessions offered basic yet crucial information about various aspects of technology.
These sessions provided not only technical knowledge but also inspiration and encouragement for the girls to pursue STEM learning.
