The Member of Parliament for Atiwa West, Laurette Korkor Asante, has distributed 200 street bulbs to 10 communities in the constituency to improve security and visibility at night.
The beneficiary communities include Kwabeng, Abomosu, Asunafo, Sankubenase, Akakom, Amunum, Akrofofo, Tumfa, Akyem Jamase, Pameng, Banso, Apampatia
Presenting the bulbs to the various communities in Friday, August 28, Wednesday, Mrs. Korkor Asante said the gesture forms part of her efforts to help improve security and reduce criminal activities in the constituency.
She noted that several communities had complained about darkness in the evenings due to faulty and non-functioning streetlights, hence the intervention.
“Security is very important. When our streets are dark, it gives room for social vices and other criminal activities. These bulbs will help brighten our communities and make our people feel safe,” she stated.
She assured the constituents that more development projects, including support for schools, health facilities, and youth empowerment, will be rolled out in the due course.
Some Assembly Members and opinion leaders who received the bulbs on behalf of their communities thanked the MP for the support and promised to ensure they are installed immediately.
They said the streetlights will help improve night-time trading activities and enhance safety for school children and traders who close late.
The MP’s office says installation of the bulbs will be supervised jointly by the Electricity Company of Ghana and community volunteers.
