The Accra High Court has set May 3, 2024, to deliver judgement on the trial of the Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and two others.

Dr. Ato Forson, also a former Deputy Minister of Finance, is standing trial with a former Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Dr Sylvester Anemana, and businessman Richard Jakpa for allegedly causing financial loss to the tune of 2.37 million euros in the deal to purchase some ambulances for the country between 2014 and 2016.

They have all pleaded not guilty to five counts of abetment to wilfully cause financial loss to the state, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, contravention of the Public Procurement Act, and intentionally misapplying public property.

Meanwhile, the  Attorney-General has indicated plans to drop the charges against Dr Anemana, who is currently receiving medical care overseas. Dr. Anemana was expected to continue his testimony via a video link. However, his wife told the court through the video link, that the accused person was unable to join the proceedings because he was undergoing medical tests in an operating theatre.

Dr Anemana was granted permission by the Court to travel outside the country for medical treatment.

Principal State Attorney Richard Gyimbibi informed the Court that the Attorney General intends to file a Noelle prosequi in respect of Dr. Anemana.

The third accused, Richard Jakpa, has been asked by the Court to prepare to open his defence. Both the prosecution and defence are expected to give their oral addresses on April 9, 2024.

The case continues on March 12, 2024.
