The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Hon. Naana Eyiah, called on the general public to attach seriousness to fire safety to curb preventable fire outbreaks in the country.

She said there is an urgent need as a people to attach more seriousness to fire safety at all times both at homes, offices, market places and industries so that lives, livelihood and properties can be protected.

The Deputy Minister was speaking at the passing out of 537 Fire Service Recruits, comprising 285 male and 252 female at the Ghana National Fire Service Academy and Training School in Accra.

Hon. Naana Eyiah commended Management of the Service for the professional training given the recruits and urged the Service to intensify fire safety education throughout the country to enable the public to understand its mode of operation and to earn their support in the achievement of organisational goals and targets.

โ€œJust as the fire outbreaks can be caused by human action and inaction, they can also be prevented in the same wayโ€, she added.

She also commended the recruits for going through many months of training in the necessary areas of fire management throughout their period.

The training programme which commenced in November 2020 was undertaken in two parts. The first part lasted for 7 weeks with a 6 months break where trainees proceeded on attachment at Fire Stations across the Country.

Awards were presented to deserving recruits, with Recruit Fire Man, Bismark Nyarko, receiving the Overall Best Recruit Award.
