The National Vice Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Sofo Azorka, has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Third Vice Chairman for Akwatia, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, during the September 2 by-election in the constituency.

According to a police statement signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Eastern South Regional Police Public Relations Unit, Chief Azorka was arrested in Tamale on September 10, 2025, following the commencement of investigations into the incident.

Police disclosed that a caution statement was obtained from the NDC executive before he was granted bail.

He is expected to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., where he will be arraigned before court.

The statement further assured the public of thorough investigations into the case, urging calm as the process continues.
