Four suspected armed robbers have been remanded into police custody by the Wenchi District Court after they were linked to a violent attack on a businessman and the theft of GH₵200,000 in the Bono Region.
The suspects, Yakubu Abuu, Ibrahim Ahmed, Abass Saliki and Ibrahim Abdallah were remanded by the court presided over by His Worship Mr. Issah Abdul Wahab on Monday, May 11, 2026, following their arrest.
The incident is said to have occurred on May 7, 2026, when the complainant, Michael Kelly Kemever, a 42-year-old businessman from Hani, was allegedly attacked while travelling as a pillion passenger with his apprentice along the Brohani–Hani stretch carrying a travelling bag containing GH¢200,000 in cash.
He told police he was ambushed at about 8:45 p.m. by a group of young men armed with cutlasses, who emerged from nearby bushes, attacked him, and made away with the money. The assault left him with deep cuts on his waist and right shoulder.
Police launched an intelligence-led operation on May 8, 2026, which led to the arrest of the first suspect, Yakubu Abuu, aged 25. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the robbery and mentioned the involvement of other accomplices.
His disclosure led officers to arrest Ibrahim Ahmed, 25, at Brohani; Abass Saliki, 31, at Hani; and Ibrahim Abdallah, 36, also at Brohani. Two other suspects remain at large.
A search conducted at the residence of Ibrahim Abdallah uncovered GH₵120,000 concealed in a black polythene bag, which police say has been retained as evidence.
Investigations further revealed that Abass Saliki, who is an apprentice of the complainant, allegedly played a key role in the planning of the attack. He is said to have informed Yakubu Abuu about the victim’s movement from Wewa to Hani along the Wewa–Brohani road and the large amount of cash he was carrying, allegedly urging him to set up an ambush.
The four suspects have since been charged with robbery, assault, causing harm, and conspiracy to commit crime, including conspiracy to commit robbery, causing harm, and assault.
They are expected to reappear before the Wenchi District Court on June 9, 2026, as police continue efforts to arrest the remaining accomplices to assist ongoing investigations
