Residents of Diabaa in the Bono Region have been left in shock and sorrow after the body of a premature-born baby girl was discovered at a local refuse dump.
According to information gathered, a seven-year-old girl, Ayinyeh Esinam, who was heading to a nearby public toilet, was drawn by the sound of a baby crying. She followed the noise to the dumpsite, only to find the lifeless infant.
The child raised alarm for the leaders of the community and people nearby to have a look at what had happened.
Confirming the incident, the Assembly Member for the area, Joe Kumi, expressed deep concern over the disturbing trend of newborn abandonment in the community.
The incident has sparked calls for intensified maternal health education, responsible parenting, and improved support systems for vulnerable women.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation and is appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the person responsible for the heartless act.
