The Queen Mother of the Sunyani Traditional Council, Nana Akosua Dua-Asor Sika Brayie, has vowed to make Sunyani the cleanest city in Africa in the next three years.
She made this commitment during a clean-up exercise held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana and Sunyani Municipal Assembly, respectively.
According to the Queen Mother, the clean-up exercise, dubbed “Omanhemaa Aprapra” is a campaign to make the city of Sunyani the cleanest in Ghana and in Africa and ensure that citizens adhere to all regulations and laws regarding cleanliness.
“We didn’t record many cases of Covid-19 because Sunyani city is regarded as the cleanest city in Ghana. The commitment I want to make is that in three years to come, Sunyani will be the cleanest city in Africa. This is the reason Omanhemaa Aprapra will help to achieve this fate.” She noted
Nana Akosua Dua-Asor Sika Brayie averred that cleanliness builds up a healthy environment that facilitates physical and mental well-being and growth. Therefore, its individual, as well as collective importance, cannot be denied. Cleaning the environment is the key to the existence and survival of life on planet earth.
However, she attributed the poor sanitation challenge in Sunyani to the population growth in the city and pledged that the “Omanhemaa Aprapra” campaign will be held quarterly.
The exercise included cleaning gutters, weeding, sweeping the principal streets of Sunyani, gathering and disposing of refuse, etc.
The volunteers were offered gloves, boots and nose masks by Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
