The Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq), on Thursday, July 17, 2025, hosted a landmark strategy session at the Prisons Headquarters in Accra, bringing together former Director-Generals, Deputy Director-Generals, Directors, and current senior officers of the Ghana Prisons Service.

Welcoming the former top officials, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie acknowledged their invaluable contributions and support throughout her professional journey to becoming the head of the Service.
She emphasized that the engagement was not only historic but timely, as it was intended to brief the former leadership on the new strategic direction of the Service.
The Director General outlined key components of this new agenda, including the soon-to-be-launched “Think Prisons 360 Degrees” initiative, which focuses on rebranding, welfare improvements, industrialization, wealth creation, and public advocacy.
She highlighted ongoing internal projects such as the DG’s Kitchen Project, designed to enhance inmate nutrition through small-scale farming initiatives within prison facilities.
She also emphasized the introduction of Creative Arts as a rehabilitation tool, aiming to unearth hidden talents among inmates.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie further announced plans for a Drug Bank Project, which seeks to partner with pharmaceutical companies to regularly supply prison clinics and infirmaries with essential medications.
Another major initiative, the Land Bank Project, aims to secure vast lands for expanded agriculture, the construction of camp prisons, new training schools, and officers’ accommodation.
Already, 1,000 acres have been secured in Anum for agricultural training, and over another 1,000 acres in the Northern Region are awaiting documentation.
In the area of education, she revealed plans to bring all prison schools under direct administration in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, and to establish nursery schools to support officers’ wards.
She also acknowledged recent support from the Ministry of Agriculture, which donated fertilizers, mini tractors, birds, and cages to boost the Akoko Nkiti Kiti initiative.
Additionally, a scholarship package from Metropolitan University has been secured for 60 beneficiaries, including officers, their dependants, and inmates. A separate partnership has opened up 6,000 coding programme slots for computer-related training.
Former Director-General and Member of Parliament for Nandom, Hon. Richard Kuuire, praised the initiative, commending the Director General’s inclusive leadership.
Former Director of Prisons Hon. B.T. Baba and other past leaders pledged to use their influence to secure greater government support for the Service.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie expressed gratitude to the attendees for honoring the invitation and urged them to become ambassadors of the Service’s rebranding and transformation agenda.
