The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the order on the presidential ballot for the 2024 general elections will remain unchanged, despite the recent disqualification of Philip Appiah Kubi, who was set to represent the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP).
This decision was made public by EC Chairperson Jean Mensa at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held on November 12. She emphasized that adjusting the ballot order at this stage would introduce unnecessary disruptions and complicate logistical arrangements, which the EC is keen to avoid.
With the presidential ballot printing already 90% complete, the EC’s commitment to maintaining the original ballot structure aims to ensure a smooth and timely electoral process. The EC noted that altering the ballots now could delay the Commission’s preparations, which are already well underway.
The GFP’s candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi, was initially nominated to replace Akua Donkor, the party’s founder and former presidential candidate, who passed away on October 28. However, the EC found irregularities in Kubi’s nomination, leading to his disqualification from the race.
The EC also highlighted other key milestones in its election preparations, which include the certified voters’ register publication and the completion of essential election materials.
These measures underscore the EC’s dedication to delivering a credible and efficient electoral process for the upcoming election.
