The Bank of Ghana has debunked claims of a fire outbreak in the central bank today, Thursday, December 8, 2022.
In a viral video on social media, smoke was seen coming from the bank premises which alerted the general public.
The bank however took to its Twitter page to debunk the claims and indicated that it conducted a routine fire drill (simulation exercise) today, Thursday, 8th December 2022, to prepare staff for a real-time fire situation.
The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service.
The Bank further added that, as a public facility, a routine fire drill is necessary for testing the efficiency and preparedness of the Bankās safety systems to manage emergencies like fires and inculcate in the staff of the Bank fire safety evacuation procedures.
The Bank of Ghana however cautioned against false reportage intended to create fear and panic in the country.
