A top and renowned Ghanaian security analyst, Dr. Adam Bonaa has said, the ongoing scuffle between the Mamprusis and the Kusasis in the Bawku Municipality has a backing of some miscreants fueling and providing ammunitions to increase the tension in the Northern part of the country.
His comments comes days after the Kusasis and the Mamprusis in the Bawku Municipality clashed on Sunday, December 26th, 2021, forcing the Interior Minister to impose curfew in the area.
According to the security analyst, there are also remote causes, and usually, anyone who has studied conflicts resolution and Peace will tell that, in such conflicted situations, one may assume that the current happenings are the cause of the conflict, citing the increasing conflicts in Bawku to be considered over 40 years ago because of chieftaincy disputes.
He revealed that, most of the people living in the Bawku areas are settlers and foreigners, stating that, he does not want to cite any ethnic group to be the cause of the conflict.
“Everything shows that, miscreants and criminals have invaded or invested in the conflicts because, the more the conflicts, the more these people provide and sells ammunitions to these fighters. Conflicts are Bawku are fully engaged with by AK47 rifles, and so, these are other groups fueling the conflicts”.
Speaking in an interview with Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic FM, Dr. Adam Bonaa revealed that, as far as he is concerned, the situation has to be looked at and authorities must also profile a solution to the problem.
He also noted that the government must initiate Human and security centered solutions, instead, the conflicts will never end today nor tomorrow in Bawku.
Explaining further on the human centered solution, he said, the Peace Council, The National House Of Chiefs, Imams, The Clergy, the Media and Opinions leaders in the areas and use dialogue and negotiations to resolve the issues in the area.
According to him, once all these things are done, the people will come to understand that, they are one people who have come together to live as one group.
“There must be what I call the Human and security interface to resolve the issues. Stakeholders must come together, National House of Chiefs, the media, Peace Council and everyone who matters in this issue so as to mediate and bring peace in the area” he told Kwame Koranteng.
Mr. Bonaa argued that, modernity has taken away all laid down traditional ways of solving issues, hence resorting to Court Resolutions has also pinned and raged whiles the people continue to die.
According to him, the security centered solution has to make Bawku the 19th Police Region, because the processes involved escalating a certain report to headquarters, has to go to the district commander in Bawku and then the Divisional Commander in the area, before it gets to the Regional Commander and then finally to the IGP.
But to him, if Bawku becomes the 19th Regional command area, the high level security presence will ease the tension that usually occurs in the area.
