Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has donated 250 packets of roofing sheets, totalling 5,000 pieces, to traders affected by the recent fire at Kantamanto Market.
The donation, which also includes ridge caps, aims to support the traders in rebuilding their businesses.
This is not the first time Dr. Bawumia has shown his support for the Kantamanto Market fire victims.
Earlier, he contributed GH¢200,000 to assist the traders in their recovery efforts. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, former Greater Accra Regional Minister, presented the donation on behalf of Dr. Bawumia.
Speaking to Citi News, Glover emphasized the importance of traders securing insurance to protect against future disasters.
He also announced that Dr. Bawumia would provide CCTV cameras to enhance security once the market reconstruction is complete.
Yaw Sarpong, Financial Secretary of the Kantamanto Market, expressed gratitude for the generous donation.
“We thank him so much,” Sarpong said, adding that the 250 packets of iron sheets would be more than sufficient to roof their structure.
The Kantamanto Market fire, which occurred on January 2, destroyed over 100 shops, displacing many traders. Dr. Bawumia’s donations and pledge to support the traders’ recovery efforts are a welcome relief to the affected community
