Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, held a stakeholder engagement on Monday, April 22, 2024, with the National Executive of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) for a dialogue on Ghana’s educational sector.
During the meeting, Dr. Bawumia explained his vision, which included a new module of leveraging the private sector and an enhanced credit system to improve infrastructure for senior high schools across the country.
He also outlined plans to support teachers, in order to improve educational outcomes.
“Under my proposal (which I mentioned during my February 7th speech at UPSA) the private sector will be encouraged to build infrastructure (such as dormitories, classrooms, etc.) which government will rent over years and own it after a period of time. Government will also lease buses for schools.”
According to the Vice President, the new module “will avoid huge initial government outlays (through the GETFUND) and delays in the completion of infrastructure projects in our senior high schools.”
He went on to say that his new approach would improve the quality of education and streamline government spending.
“Like me, CHASS is excited about the prospects of this policy proposal as it will reduce the educational infrastructure deficit, improve maintenance, enhance the quality of education and at the same time improve the management of Government expenditure.:
