The Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has expressed his dissatisfaction with how supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are mounting pressure on the 2024 flagbearer of the party, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, to select a running mate.
In an interview on GTV, the Member of Parliament for Suame constituency said pressure from members and supporters of the party regarding his choice of running mate makes him uncomfortable because the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, is discerning and analytic enough to make his own decisions.
“This whole kind of intrigues and contrivance will suggest to some people that are you doing this to foist some people on him because he is a northerner, tying his hands behind him. That is what makes me uncomfortable, Bawumia is discerning enough, he is analytical enough, he is intelligent enough to make his own decision”, he said.
He urged the public to give the party’s flagbearer ample time to choose his running mate.
“Let’s leave him. He has stayed long enough in the party to know the nooks and crannies of the party. Let’s leave him to make that decision,” he stressed.
