Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service purportedly instigated a violent altercation with security guards at the Techiman Holy Family Teaching Hospital.
The incident, which occurred last Saturday evening in the Bono East Regional capital, left several security guards at the health facility injured.
Reports indicate that the confrontation ensued after five fire officers attempted to visit a female colleague who was hospitalized at the facility. However, they were denied entry by hospital security due to visiting hours being over, prompting a heated exchange.
According to W.O. 1 Kwakuru Kingsley David, the Head of Security at the Holy Family Hospital, the situation escalated when the fire officers allegedly assaulted and injured security personnel. Subsequently, additional fire officers arrived, purportedly exacerbating the chaos.
W.O. 1 Kwakuru Kingsley David disclosed that the reinforcements forcibly removed their hospitalized colleague and caused chaos at the premises.
The hospital management has since filed an official complaint with the Ghana Police Service, urging thorough investigations and appropriate sanctions against the perpetrators.
While confirming the incident, A.D.O. 1 Gyan Victor, the Bono East Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service, shifted blame to the hospital security, citing unprofessional conduct towards one of their officers.
He maintained that the ensuing commotion was not an attack, and the additional personnel were deployed to ensure the safety of their colleague, whose security allegedly could not be guaranteed.
