The Bono East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Gabriel Dei-Yeboah has disclosed that the commission exceeded its target for the number of first-time voters during the just ended Limited Voter Registration Exercise in the region.

Dr. Dei-Yeboah in an interview after the exercise on May 29 said “After the 21 days plus the two additional days extension for the exercise; 14,158 males representing 48.5% while 15,044 females also representing 51.5% were captured making a total of 29,202 new voters.

According to the EC official, though the total number of new voters fell within their target range, he is overwhelmed with the outcome.

He also added that, despite the challenges faced during the process, he is glad with the figure because it is a sign that voters are maturing in terms of democracy.

Meanwhile, with just 6 months to the 2024 general elections, the EC on Thursday, May 30, began replacement of lost voter cards for individuals and is expected to bring the exercise to an end on Friday, June 14, 2024.

Per the EC’s timetable, a provisional copy of the voter register will be submitted to political parties between July 9 and 18, 2024, while an exhibition of the voter register is scheduled between July 15 and 24, 2024.

The final voter register is expected to be submitted to the political parties between August 30 and September 5, 2024.
