The Ahafo Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, has charged former President John Dramani Mahama to be circumspect in his utterances.

The 2020 flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)On Tuesday on September 7 at the start of the resumption of his ‘Thank You’ tour in the Bono East Region,  said the next polls must be won at the polling stations and it will be “do or die”.

“We have learnt our lessons from happenings during the 2020 polls,” he said on Techiman-based Akina FM

Members of the ruling NPP have criticised the former president for his controversial ‘do-or-die’ statement and want him to retract the comment.

However, the Former President John Dramani Mahama has justified his recent comments about the 2024 elections, saying he only used an English idiomatic expression which does not connote the interpretation being spun on it.

Reacting to his comment, the Ahafo Regional Chairman of NPP expressed his deepest disappointment on the recent irresponsible comments made by the former president during an interview with the media which has attracted massive public backlash on both traditional and the social media.

According to him, it is unfortunate for a former President to be so desperate to the extent that he would declare a “do or die” affair at the polling station because he wants to win the next elections by all means.

“He as a former president should at all material times act and speak like a statesman who is being paid by the Ghanaian taxpayer.” The Ahafo NPP Chair added

The Regional Chairman, therefore suggested some thematic areas he believes the former president Mahama and his NDC party should focus on to help them win power.

He said former president Mahama and his NDC should focus on finding alternative policies that can compete those being implemented by President Akufo-Addo and the NPP and also train their polling agents who will be capable of collating their results from the polling station to the national collation center.

I, Kwabena Owusu Sekyere, Ahafo Regional Chairman of NPP, charged former President John Dramani Mahama to be responsible in his utterances going forward.

I wish to express my deepest disappointment on the recent irresponsible comments made by the former president during an interview with the media which has attracted massive public backlash on both traditional and the social media.

For a whole former President to be so desperate to the extent that he would declare a “do or die” affair at the polling station because he wants to win the next elections by all means is absolutely uncalled for.

He as a former president should at all material times act and speak like a statesman who is being paid by the Ghanaian taxpayer.

I am worried about why the former president who should know better would cause such fear and panic in the Ghanaian society by positing that he and his party would win the next elections through violent means.

These are the issues that former president Mahama and his NDC should focus on
1. finding alternative policies that can compete those being implemented by President Akufo-Addo and the NPP.
2. training of his polling agents who will be capable of collating his results from the polling station to the national collation center.

I want to remind former President Mahama and all those who think and act like him to reconsider their plans since the Ghanaian security will not leave any stones unturned on such reckless behaviors.

Since former President Mahama and like all politicians won’t let any member of their families to be at the forefront of any violence, it does not make sense to encourage the ordinary Ghanaian to do anything outside the law for political power.

My advice to all politicians to be very responsible going into the 2024 elections because President Akufo-Addo is determined to hand over power peacefully to whoever will be chosen by Ghanaians in the next General elections.

……… Signed………
