Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for education, has announced a significant change in the selection process for senior high schools, wherein candidates who have taken the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will now select their preferred schools subsequent to the release of their results.
This modification, according to the minister, aims to enhance the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) and enable students to make informed decisions regarding their educational pathways.
During a press briefing held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, the minister disclosed that candidates will have a one-week period following the release of their results to select their preferred schools.
The Minister noted that the previous system, which required students to choose schools without knowledge of their academic performance, frequently impacted placement outcomes adversely.
“In the past, students selected schools without knowing their aggregate, and that affected the placement system. This time, we will provide a mandatory period of one week after results are declared for students to confirm their choices based on their performance,” he stated.
The minister believes the new approach will make senior high school admissions fairer and more efficient.
