Tricycle riders in Berekum are grappling with a severe fuel shortage that has disrupted their operations and livelihoods.
The crisis, which began on Tuesday, has forced many riders off the roads, leaving commuters stranded and causing a surge in transport costs.
According to Justice Bilatum, a tricycle operator, there is growing suspicion that fuel station owners are deliberately hoarding fuel in anticipation of a price increase.
“We are unable to work because there is no fuel. Only one out of the ten fuel stations in Berekum is currently selling, and even that one has long queues,” he lamented.
Speaking on Adikanfo FM, some pragyia (tricycle) riders appealed to the authorities to swiftly announce new fuel prices to stabilize the situation.
They fear that prolonged uncertainty will exacerbate their financial difficulties and disrupt economic activities in the area.
Meanwhile, the shortage is also affecting residents and commuters, who are struggling to find affordable transport. With fewer tricycles operating, fares have increased, adding to the burden of daily life.
Authorities are yet to respond to the concerns raised by the riders, but stakeholders are urging swift action to prevent further economic strain on the community.
