Accra Hearts of Oak’s Ghana Premier League season began with a stifling loss to Dormaa’s Aduana Stars, as the Ogya club claimed a well-deserved win in front of their home fans at the Agyeman Badu Stadium.

Aduana had the majority of possession and created the most chances in the first half, but they were fortunate not to be behind as Hearts of Oak’s Dennis Korsah struck the post from inside the box just before halftime.

Just four minutes after the break, an unmarked Bright Adeji scored from close range to give the home team the lead.

Hearts improved after falling behind and had numerous chances to equalize but blew them all. Eric Esso’s last-minute free-kick effort missed the goal by an inch as Hearts left Dormaa empty-handed.

Hearts of Oak finished the game with 10 men after defender Caleb Amankwah, on his return to his former home, was controversially sent off in the dying embers.

Also on Sunday, defender Kofi Asmah scored the game-winning goal as Medeama beat Legon Cities, who had two players sent off.

Kotoku Royals won their first-ever Ghana Premier League match, defeating Accra Lions by a single goal in Cape Coast.

Karela United beat newcomers Tamale City 1-0, Dreams FC stunned Gold Stars in Bibiani, and Real Tamale United were held to a goalless draw by Samartex, who were also making their league debut.
