Residents in Bibiani in the Western North Region have expressed their utmost disgust over what they described as unlawful billings by the Electricity Company of Ghana.
Residents who are unhappy with the exorbitant electricity tariffs they have been paying in recent months claim they have submitted many complaints to the ECG to examine the cause of the anomaly but to no effect.
Some residents alleged that ECG officials to whom they had complained had extorted money from them but were unable to resolve their complaints.
“We will rather resort to the gods to solve our problems than anything else because we believe it will be quicker and the best means to deal with them. How can we pay over seven hundred Ghana cedis monthly for using only bulbs? This is very hectic, and we need the attention of the gods to settle this issue,” they noted.
One of the aggrieved customers, Afrani, who stays at Hwenampori, reiterated that several attempts to reach the ECG officials to solve their issues of overbilling have proven unfruitful.
“We have been to the ECG office more than ten times; we are only three tenants in the house; we do not have high-voltage appliances, but they want us to pay over a thousand five hundred Ghana cedis for two months; sometimes they will insult you and call you names for coming to the office for redress. This is very wicked, and we will never succumb to their bullies. We are all Ghanaians, so we are calling on the authorities to come in, or we shall curse them one by one,” he noted.
